The short version: Your data stays on your device and in your private iCloud account. We never see it, store it, or share it with anyone.
What Data Cadence Collects
Cadence stores the following information that you provide:
- Bowel movement logs: Bristol stool type, color, ease, urgency, volume, duration, alarm symptoms (blood, mucus, floating), and optional notes
- Timestamps: Date and time of each entry
- First name: Optional, used only for your personalized dashboard greeting
- Preferences: App settings like onboarding completion status
Apple HealthKit Data
With your explicit permission, Cadence reads the following nutrition data from Apple Health to provide context alongside your gut health patterns:
- Dietary energy (calories)
- Protein
- Carbohydrates
- Fat
- Fiber
Cadence never writes any data to Apple Health. HealthKit data is fetched on-demand and is not stored separately by the app.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Your Private iCloud
All health tracking data is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This means:
- Data syncs between your iPhone and Apple Watch via your iCloud
- The developer has no access to your data
- No data is stored on any developer-operated server
- Your data is protected by Apple's iCloud security and encryption
Your first name and app preferences are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults and are not synced to any server.
What We Don't Do
- No accounts or sign-ups - Cadence does not require or create any user accounts
- No analytics or tracking - No usage analytics, crash reporting services, or behavioral tracking of any kind
- No advertising - No ads, no ad networks, no ad identifiers
- No third-party SDKs - Cadence uses only Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, SwiftData, CloudKit, HealthKit, WatchConnectivity)
- No data sharing - Your data is never shared with, sold to, or accessible by any third party
- No server-side processing - All scoring and analysis happens entirely on your device
Data Retention and Deletion
You control your own data:
- Individual entries can be deleted within the app at any time
- You can export all your data in CSV or Markdown format at any time
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored data and preferences
- iCloud data can be managed through your device's iCloud settings
Data Export
Cadence allows you to export your complete tracking history. Exported files contain personal health information and are shared using the iOS share sheet, which you control. Please store and share exported files carefully.
Children's Privacy
Cadence is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of Cadence after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
